Heh heh heh... Now that's what I call a big fat juicy fly... Yum yum!

The Big Spider approaching Henrietta

The Big Spider[1] is a spider who lives in the African jungle.

Physical Appearance

The big spider resembles a red black tail crab spider with a hairy abdomen. He has a slightly darker red head and legs.

Personality

The big spider shows a rather hostile personality to any creature whom he mistakes as food (specifically the size of a fly). This could be a misunderstanding, but the spider was very hungry and eager to see prey trapped in his home. Like most spiders, the big spider uses a large spider web as his home. However, he is shown to be sensitive of creatures bigger than his size such as when Giggles and Tickles pretend to be an arachnid-like monster bigger than his size, causing him to react in fear. As a result, the spider retreated from the monkeys in fear, followed by Giggles and Tickles freeing Henrietta who was tied up in the webbing.

Trivia

  • He is the first and only arthropod to speak.
  • Despite trying to eat Henrietta, spiders cannot eat hippos in real life.
  • Spiders in real life are not actually hostile towards their enemies, unlike the spider that tried to eat Henrietta. They only attack their enemies by biting them as a defense mechanism when they are provoked.
  • The concept of Henrietta encountering a spider on a web was later used in another book by An Vrombaut titled "Tiger Trail" where the kitten follows the string to find his yarn to find him inside a shack. The only exception is that the spider does not try to eat the kitten protagonist compared to the big spider from 64 Zoo Lane, as the plot is mostly about the kitten following the trail of yarn with the spider being revealed to actually be a diminutive-sized spider.
    • Unlike the spider from 64 Zoo Lane that spoke, the spider that appeared in Tiger Trail did not speak.
