What a selfish beaver!
~ Boris, angry about Beverley who is causing deforestation.
Boris 1

Boris

Boris the Bear is a bear who lives in the forests of North America.

Physical Appearance

Boris is a brown bear - specifically a North American grizzly bear due to the episodes set in the aforementioned lanscape - with fair brown skin and a purple nose. Each of Boris' four paws (the front ones which he uses as hands and the back ones which he uses as feet) have three white claws sticking out on each of them. Unlike bears in real-life which walk on all fours, Boris is frequently seen on twos like an actual human (similar to many bears in fiction - particularly in cartoons or in illustrations).

Personality

Boris often shows a wise and kind personality to Lucy - often showing a personality and reacting of Lucy's past experiences during the day when talking to the animals at the zoo where he lives. However, in spite of this, he can occasionally be a bit clumsy. In episodes where he appears in the North American forest, he has a fond of honey which is found on trees which having honey on it.

In addition to this, Boris has a cousin who lives in the North Pole named "Snowbert", a polar bear who shows a good friendship with the former. When Lucy saw Snowbert on the rock where Boris usually sits, she felt confused at first when she saw Snowbert sitting on his spot, but learned to become flexible when she let Snowbert tell the story instead of Boris.

Trivia

  • Boris is based on either a sloth bear or a grizzly bear. Because he lives in North America, Boris is actually a grizzly.
  • Boris speaks with a Scottish accent.
  • He is very similar to Baloo, a character from "The Jungle Book" novel series.
  • Boris is the only non-African animal to appear in every episode.
  • Boris is seen wide awake on winter seasons; in real life, many bears hibernate during winter.
  • Boris is one of the storytellers who can tell stories that do not take place in his hometown. These two range from the North Pole (Episode 4) and Australia (Episode 19).
    • Also, he and Molly are the only storytellers not from Australia who can tell stories that tell stories that take place in Australia.
  • The only time Boris was ever seen with his cousin named "Snowbert" was in "The Story of Hercule Mustache".
  • Boris is a name of Slavic origin which is derived from "böri" (meaning "wolf") or "bars" (meaning "snow leopard"), which could be fitting for Boris himself being a bear, which in turn could be a reference to bears being the most worshipped animals in Eastern Slavic culture.
