Cleopatra

Patsy

Patsy the Porcupine (also known as "Cleopatra") is a female porcupine who lives in the Blue Mountain. She is widely known as the best cleaner of Africa.

Background

Physical Appearance

Patsy has spikes with black and white patterns and a purple nose. Her skin is coloured pale blue.

Personality

Living in the Blue Mountain, Patsy would often come to the savannah for a visit - usually curious to see what it is like in the savannah. She is capable of using her spikes to carry objects (specifically leaves) and often use them to deploy and organize objects whenever it becomes messy. This gives a hint that Patsy likes to clean up the messes which she sees, describing her as one of the greatest cleaners of Africa. During Reginald's encounter with Patsy, he mistook her for a lioness when she arrived at the savannah. Reginald even became fascinated when she approached him at the savannah during a banquet.

Despite her cleaning skills, Patsy cannot clean up the mess whenever she has an injured leg or when her spikes are broken. This leads to a great disadvantage where Patsy cannot help at this moment, causing the animals clean up the mess with Patsy being unavailable. Once the animals clean up the mess, Patsy becomes satisfied with them for the animals doing their job in cleaning the mess.

Trivia

  • Patsy's alias "Cleopatra" is named after the Egyptian pharaoh of the same name.
  • Contrary to belief, Season 2 is not the first appearance of Patsy; in Season 1, Patsy is only seen in the opening theme not appearing in any episodes. However, Episode 35 is her first proper appearance throughout the series.
    • Additionally in the book adaptation of "Zed the Zebra", Patsy can be briefly seen from a distance without dialogue in the page where it shows Zed running super fast.
  • Patsy is based on an African crested porcupine (Hystrix cristata).
  • Reginald has a crush on her in her first proper appearance in the series.
  • On one of the expression sheets for Patsy, it depicts two unused expressions of Patsy that were not used in the final version. One expression shows an image of Patsy dancing (showing Patsy standing on her hind legs) and the other one showing Patsy sleeping. The other two poses after that are two expressions of Patsy sitting with her eyes closed and opened respectively.
    • Of all the four expressions, only two expressions were used in the final version of the series. The two expressions showing Patsy dancing and sleeping respectively were not used in the final version and were scrapped, implying that these expressions were to be used in an episode whose title is being worked on. Every scene where Patsy appears depicts her walking on all fours in the finalized versions of the series.
      • The unused expression of Patsy dancing shows her standing on her hind legs, which would be the only one where she is seen standing on twos. This does not count her poses where she is seen sitting down.
    • Additionally, the same expression sheet shows four unused Patsy heads. These heads would show Patsy in scenes where close-ups of her would appear - implying that these close-ups were to be used in an episode whose title is being worked on. These expressions were left unused and not used in any episode. These expressions could imply that the series would feature scenes of Patsy either standing or sitting on her hind legs.
  • Though Patsy has claws in the original opening, she does not have claws in any episode she appears at. It is likely that the porcupine that appears in the opening song from Season 1-2 is an early prototype of Patsy.
    • This also happens in the opening in the third and fourth seasons where Patsy has no claws unlike from what was seen in the opening for the first and second seasons.
  • The name "Cleopatra" was used in the Season 2 episode "The Story of the Important Visitor". The name "Patsy" has been shown in the model sheet for Patsy herself as well as being mentioned in dialogue in the episode. In the rest of her appearances, she was called simply "Patsy".
